ABSTRACT
The
project “Art on Paper: Safeguarding the Paper Artworks in the Collection of the
Miguel Dutra Municipal Art Gallery of Piracicaba” was funded by PROAC 37/2024 –
Safeguarding Collections. The project was developed as a safeguarding measure
for part of the collection of paper artworks of the Miguel Dutra Municipal Art
Gallery of Piracicaba, carrying out the restoration of 15 artworks that were in
poor condition and whose degradation had been accelerated due to improper
storage during the institution's transition between locations. The project was
planned to unfold in three crucial stages: meticulous planning of all stages
and involvement of teams; handling and restoration of the selected artworks
with specialized and recognized companies in the market; and finally, the
return of knowledge and information to the staff and the general public,
developing two workshops, an open restoration available to the public, the
donation of a tactile model to the collection, and continuous dissemination
through online platforms. social media and regional press coverage. The
project's development also yielded other notable results, such as transparency
in processes at all stages, an inclusive professional body composed almost
entirely of women, including mothers, Black women, and neurodivergent women ,
providing all outreach activities free of charge, and investing in
accessibility features in ongoing outreach.
